Tips for Buyers

When buying secondhand goods, such as those listed on this website, there are some special considerations to bear in mind.

These items can be expected to show signs of use and will not generally appear as new. Given their age, many items may no longer be fit for the purpose of their original manufacture and may now only be decorative items or have been repurposed in some way. There may also be some aspects of an item’s history not known to the seller. The seller, in this case, is the individual trader offering the item for sale (see, When I make a purchase, who is my transaction with?).

The sizing and style of fashion items may also have changed over time, meaning that the original size label may be different from an equivalently labelled modern-made item. The item should still be as described, however, it’s advisable to ask the seller specific questions, such as:

  • Is there any damage to this item or signs of wear-and-tear?
  • Can this item be used for…
  • Would this item be suitable for…
  • When was this item made?
  • Is this item wired for modern electricity?
  • Can this item be used as originally intended (ie. does it still “work”)?

We invite you to ask questions and even encourage it, just as we would at our offline events where conversation forms a large part of the trusted relationship that develops between traders and longtime customers.

When I make a purchase, who is my transaction with?

The items shown on this website are offered for sale by many different antiques, vintage and collectables traders. When you make a purchase through this website, you are dealing directly with the trader selling the item.

To see the name of the trader selling a particular item and visit their shop page, click the “Vendor Info” tab on the product page.

What delivery locations are available?

Traders selling items on the website offer delivery to Ireland and Northern Ireland.

What delivery methods are available?

Delivery methods may vary depending on the item and the trader. If you have a question about an item, you can use the “Contact” button on the product page to contact the trader selling the item.

How long does delivery usually take?

Delivery times may vary depending on the item and the trader. If you have a question about an item, you can use the “Contact” button on the product page to contact the trader selling the item.

What is the returns policy?

For most items*, when you make a purchase online from a business based either in Ireland or elsewhere in the EU, you have an automatic right to return the item within 14 days and receive a refund, should you change your mind for any reason. However, you must communicate this wish to the seller within the 14-day period and must then return the item within 14 days of that date. The seller, in this case, is the individual trader you purchased the item from.

The item must be in the same condition as it was delivered to you; otherwise, you may be held responsible for the diminished value of the goods. It is therefore important that you take care of goods while they are in your care and endeavour to ensure their safe return. Refunds are generally not issued until the item is returned to the seller.

You may also request a refund if an item is deemed faulty, unfit for purpose or not as described (for faulty items, we ask that you contact the trader within 7 days or receiving your purchase); however, there are specific considerations to be taken into account when buying secondhand goods such as those listed on this website. These items can be expected to show signs of use and will not generally appear as new. Many items may no longer be fit for the purpose of their original manufacture and may now only be decorative items or have been repurposed in some way. The sizing and style of fashion items may also have changed over time, meaning that the original size label may be different from an equivalently labelled modern-made item. The item should still be as described, however, it’s advisable to ask the seller specific questions, such as:

We invite you to ask questions and even encourage it, just as we would at our offline events where conversation forms a large part of the trusted relationship that develops between traders and longtime customers. It is the trader’s responsibility to describe the item as accurately as possible, and the customer should read this information carefully and ask questions wherever clarity is needed. However, with antique and vintage items, there may be some aspects of the item or its history which are unknown to the seller.

You may also request a refund if an item is not delivered within a reasonable timeframe (30 days unless otherwise agreed with the seller).

When you request a refund in accordance with your Consumer Rights Directive entitlements, you are also entitled to a return of the standard cost of shipping, if you paid shipping costs at the time of purchase. Regardless of the shipping method used to deliver the item to you, consumers are only entitled to the standard costs of shipping. When you are returning an item, however, the cost of delivering the item back to the seller is the customer’s responsibility.

It is the trader’s responsibility to meet these rights and VintageIreland.eu accepts no liability for refunds or returns.

*Some items are exempt from a consumer’s 14-day cooling-off period rights, such as those which cannot be returned for hygiene reasons, hotel bookings, event tickets, perishable goods, custom-made or personalised goods such as engraved or tailored items and so forth.

Can I sell something on the website?

At present, registration for a trader account is by invitation only and is available only to those who have already participated in a number of our offline events.

Can I sell something at a fair?

For single items or small collections, we recommend you consider auction. However, if you’re interested in becoming a regular trader at our events, visit our Exhibitors FAQ section. Note: Given the nature of our events, exhibition is only available for traders of antiques, vintage items and traditional collectables; unfortunately, this excludes modern-made items and food/beverages.
