There is so much to see and do in this lovely spot that is just 30 minutes drive from Dublin, 10 minutes from Drogheda and 15 minutes from Navan that it is well worth coming for the day. The fair opens at 11am, so come early, have a browse round the various stands at the fair, an early lunch al fresco in the secluded garden (weather permitting.. who knows, even though it is November!) and then join members of the local historical society for a free guided tour of the Hill of Slane at 2pm (ask at the fair for directions to the meeting point for the tour). If you crave more culture, there is still time to take a tour of Slane Castle (€7) and poetry lovers can visit Ledwidge Cottage on the edge of the village, or if you are feeling energetic, you can follow the Rampart Walk along the river Boyne, giving you a great excuse for treating yourself to delicious home-made cakes in the cafe. Bru na Boinne and the Battle of the Boyne site are also a short drive away, so lots of options for a lovely day away.
